Conference in Frankfurt, 16/17 September 202116.08.2021

In Cooperation with PERSPECTIV and the German UNESCO Commission, ICOMOS Germany and the German Architecture Museum are organizing a conference on modernizing historical theatre buildings. The conference will be held at the German Architecture Museum (DAM) in Frankfurt / Main on 16 and 17 September 2021. It will also be streamed online. The conference language is German. Freiberg Theatre (Germany)15.07.2019

We welcome as new member the Freiberg Theatre in Saxony. Inaugurated in 1790, it is the oldest continuously operating professional Municipal Theatre in Germany. Never destroyed by fire or war, but revamped repeatedly, its present fabric dates mainly from 1950 and the 1980s, making it an outstanding example of how history was used at the beginning and at the end of the GDR. Opera co-production premiered12.05.2019

Three PERSPECTIV member theatres have jointly produced the opera “Lo speziale” (The Apothecary), composed Joseph Haydn. The highly acclaimed production features four singers, historically informed staging by specialist Nils Niemann and the renowned period orchestra Lautten Compagney, conducted by Wolfgang Katschner. The premiere just took place in the Private Theatre of Kochberg Palace (DE), from where it will continue to Putbus Theatre (DE) and to the Teatru Manoel in Valletta, Malta. Please see a video here.

Europe’s oldest municipal theatre reopened02.05.2019

After 20 years of stabilizing and renovating the 16th century arsenal on the island of Hvar, Croatia, the theatre on the first floor of this impressive building has been given back to the public. The Croatian Minister of Culture, Mrs Nina Obuljen Korzinek, reopened it as part of a three-day celebration which included a conference and performances doing homage to the Renaissance poets of the region. The theatre first opened its doors in 1612; the present auditorium dates from 1803. See the theatre in a video here.

New Honorary Members for PERSPECTIV31.03.2019

The General Assembly of PERSPECTIV has awarded two honorary memberships for outstanding achievements in the field of historic theatres. The laureates are Per Forsström (Sweden), former manager of Drottningholm Court Theatre and outgoing member of the Board of PERSPECTIV, where he has served since its creation in 2003, also as Treasurer or as President; and Carsten Jung (Germany), founding member and former Secretary-General of PERSPECTIV and manager of the European Route of Historic Theatres.

PERSPECTIV announces Conference & Meetings 201903.12.2018

The bi-annual PERSPECTIV conference – the forum for anyone working for, in or on historic theatre buildings – will take place from 31 March to 2 April 2019 in Hanau, Germany. The event also comprises a General Assembly of Members and Route meetings of the European Route of Historic Theatres. It will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the reopening of the Comoedienhaus (Playhouse) at Hanau-Wilhelmsbad, Germany’s oldest spa theatre, inaugurated in 1781. Please find the programme here.
