Help us celebrate on October 25th the European Historic Theatres Day 2026.

OUR SHARED STAGE

Every theatre has a community. Every community has a story.

Join the celebration!
Every year on and around 25 October, historic theatre buildings across Europe, as well
as institutions and initiatives devoted to our theatre heritage, celebrate European
Historic Theatres Day.

120 historic theatres in Europe are already connected through the European Route of
Historic Theatres network.

Our Shared Stage celebrates historic theatres as places that are shared across
generations, communities and borders. A theatre is more than its stage, auditorium and
collections: it is a meeting place shaped by everyone who has worked, performed,
learned and gathered there.

For EHTD, we invite theatres and their communities to tell the stories of the people who
bring these places to life. Audiences, artists, technicians, craftspeople, guides,
volunteers, researchers, neighbors and visitors all have a part to play.

The theme can be interpreted widely. It might be a story about a community using a
theatre today, a craft or tradition passed from one generation to another, memories
connected to a particular stage, or a collaboration between theatres in different parts of
Europe.

On social media, participants are encouraged to share photos, short videos, memories
and stories showing what Our Shared Stage means to them. The aim is to create a
collective portrait of Europe’s historic theatres – not simply as monuments of the past,
but as living places that we share and carry forward together.
